The Garden Page

We have been growing "All Natural" produce since 1997. We became "Certified Naturally Grown" in 2003, the same year we became a CSA- Community Supported Agriculture. We started out small and each year our gardens, our knowledge and our expertise have grown so that we may offer the best produce that we can sell using all natural and organic practices.

Community Supported Agriculture

CSA is a relationship of support and commitment between local farmers and the community who pay the farmer an annual membership fee by purchasing a share which covers the production costs. In turn, members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the local growing season. This creates "agriculture supported communities."

What is a Share?

A "share" is usually enough to feed a family of four or 2 adult people on a vegetarian diet. The price of a share for a season depends uponeach farm's costs of operation, total months of distribution, variety of crops available and productivity of soil; it is comparable to prices in the supermarket.

CSA Background

CSA is a relatively recent phenomenon in the U.S. and Canada. Teikei, the CSA equivalent, which translates to mean "partnership" or "cooperation" was first developed in Japan by a group of women concerned with the use of pesticides, as well as processed and imported foods and the decrease in the farm population. In 1965 these women initiated a direct, cooperative relationship with local farmers in which they were supported by consumers on an annual basis.

In 1984 Jan Vander Tuin brought the concept of CSA from a community supported agriculturasl project near Zurich, Switzerland to North America. He introduced the idea to Robyn Van En at Indian Line Farm in S. Egremont, Massachusetts and the CSA concept in North American was born.

Our CSA Program

We are located in the Northwest corner of Oakland County in Michigan. Our season runs 15 weeks, from the end of May to mid September. We offer 12 shares each year at $350.00 per share if signup by the 1st of April, otherwise, the cost is $385.00 after the 10th of April until the 1st of May each year.
